On the river was dealt 9c. Obviously, someone had to win and it would not be me, but there was a good chance that no one else had made a hand and if someone did, they would split the pot with me.
Then I realized that I had to shift gears and start playing aggressively. I remember the next time that I sat at a table that was getting hot, I began playing weaker hands aggressively, pushing all in with hands like 8-8, 7-7, 6-6, 5-5, 4-4, 3-3, 2-2.
And, by doing so, soon everyone lost their mind because they lost all their blinds to me.
This is what you have to do. You have to loosen up your play and start playing more hands. You cannot become a calling station where everyone at the table calls your bets. You have to exploit your opponents’ tendencies.
You will definitely lose your success if you think that you have to play every hand. Try raising with hands like 6-7, 5-6, 4-5, 3-4, 2-6, and 5-6 at the beginning of the Poker Tournament. If you intend to win the Poker Tournament with this hand, you have a hand that you can profit from.
Starting with the best hand, you will win money in the long run more than you will lose with poor starting hands.
If you become too predictable, players will fold to your raises. This is because you are jeopardizing their chance of winning the hand. On the other hand, if you raise with hands like Q-7, and you have pocket 7’s, you are forcing the action and your opponents have to fold to your bet.
On the other hand, you don’t want to find yourself chasing something that you have an inferior hand at. Stick to your guns, and be decisive, and you will be less likely to lose your chips to something that you shouldn’t be playing against.
Tip:If you intend to win the tournament, avoid playing in the first two rounds at the most. Wait for the right hands or the right moments to get your chips into the pot.
Tip:Playing against an opponent who is short stacked is something that you have to be on the look out for. When you find one, you need to take advantage of the situation.
If you know that your opponent is short stacked, and you have better cards than them, you are in a commanding position. In fact, you may want to get your chips in the middle as being in such a position is something that your opponent may not be able to fold.
